Getting The Wedding Dress Of Your Dreams

eb

The wedding gown is central to all the fantasies of every little girl. From the time they are collecting their dolls they are beginning to envision the excitement of their wedding day.

Before you go to purchase your wedding gown
Do your research -- Make a list of the things you're looking for, including dress silhouette, neck, length, fabric, sleeves and embellishments. Find bridal books and wedding sites to help with ideas on your gown.
A great way to start is by beginning to clip files of all of the dresses that you like. Don’t be afraid to pick dresses that aren’t necessarily wedding dresses. Even if it’s a formal bridesmaid dress, you may be able to find the style in white.
When purchasing a wedding dress you will also want to consider the styles of the     bridesmaid dresses and mother of the bride dresses. Of course matching the theme with them might be important for that perfect day. Couture bridal gowns give an elegant feel to your wedding, and make any bride beautiful. You may want to visit a couture trunk show to look at the fine details of the fabrics and stitching of these fine gowns. Local magazines or the newspaper might have this information.

When you’re in the store
Remember that YOU will be the one wearing the wedding dress, so it’s up to YOU to choose the one that suits you.
Be sure to tell the person that is helping you what you are looking for in a dress—long, short, formal, casual, themed, etc. They are experienced in selecting dresses, so the more information you can give them, the better able they are to bring you things that you will want to try on.

If what you try on doesn’t immediately make you look beautiful, then move on to the next dress. Your perfect wedding gown will look fantastic on you from the beginning. Don't judge gowns by their "hanger" appearance -- The dress will take it's shape while it is on your body and will look completely different from the way it did on the hanger.
Don’t give up hope—the perfect one is out there!

Modern day brides sometimes opt for something a little simpler. Sometimes simple can be even more elegant than the classic wedding gown with the very long train, which may even seem gaudy to today's working women.

If brides are fortunate enough to have an antique family heirloom they would probably love to wear their grandmother or mother's wedding gown. Much of the elegance that the modern day fashion industry designers create is based on the 'heritage' or 'retro' models of the past. These wedding gowns of old included many layers and dimensions of satin, lace, beads, ribbon and covered buttons. The veils were correspondingly ornate and ever so dramatic.

The majority of wedding gowns are probably white, or ecru, a very fine off-white, or eggshell. This 'absence of color' is the perfect contrast to be at the center of many pretty pastel bridesmaids’ dresses and the wedding flowers. All of these various combinations must be kept in mind when designing a wedding. The groom and grooms men cummerbunds and buttoners must also match or contrast well with the chosen color scheme.

Wearing a short wedding gown is an option, with beautiful matching hosiery and shoes, for a very modern and sophisticated look. A wedding veil for this option could be no more than a 'pillbox' type hat, with a short veil.

Make sure your wedding dress lasts
The most expensive dress you'll probably ever buy is the one you'll wear just once: your wedding gown. Have the gown cleaned professionally before you store it, the Soap and Detergent Association recommends. Stains that you can't see now may show up later. If the trim can't withstand dry cleaning, remove it beforehand and reattach it afterward.
Stuff the bodice with white, acid-free tissue paper to prevent wrinkles and creases, and remove fabric-covered buttons, pins, sponge padding and perspiration shields that could damage the fabric. Hang the gown on a hanger and wrap it in a white sheet or muslin, or wrap it in white, acid-free tissue paper and pack it in a box.
Store the gown in a cool, dry place, such as under a bed. Basements are usually too damp and attics too hot.
